Traffic Safety: Beware of horses, deer, cyclists, and farm vehicles. In summer, beware of speeding on Lacon road (50 km/h limit) and East road (60 km/h limit).
Horses:  Pass wide and slow. Call out if cycling. On trails, cyclists yield to horses.
Deer. If you kill or injure one, call the Deer Response Team: Peter Karsten (-335-1640), Dean Heyland  (218-4534), Peter Janes (897-8540), Kris Christensen (335-3225), and John Isbister (897-4238). Other wildlife: Mike Nestor (218-0782).
Key Telephone numbers: inside cover and first page of the Denman Directory. Get yours from the General Store.
Poison Control: 1-800-567-8911 and Crisis Line 24/7: 1-888-494-3888
Trash
: Use the Recycle Centre and Bottle Depot at 5901 Denman Road. On that page (Residents Association) find the garbage pick-up schedule and a link to download the current list of items you can recycle.  Please don’t litter.
Dogs: Canines must be leashed or under full control of owners (please pick up after your dog). Call Chris Danks about dog concerns 335-1838.
Driving on beaches: This damages marine life. High tides may swamp your car.
Public toilets: Find portables outside the Hardware store, at the sports field behind the Community Hall, and at the Recycle Centre, 5901 Denman Road. Ferry terminals have flush toilets. Pit toilets are at the Boyle Point, Sandy Island, and Fillongley parks.
Food: Eateries close early pm, except summer and weekends. See current hours of places to eat on VisitDenmanIsland. Groceries and fresh produce are  available at the General Store: current hours. Buy fresh produce and snacks at the Saturday Market (9.30-12.30 in summer), and eggs and fresh produce at roadside stands.
Water: Protect the aquifers that supply our drinking water. Avoid pesticides. Do not pour harmful liquids (e.g. oil, gasoline, paint) on the ground. Buy potable water in plastic barrels at the General Store.
Swimming: our two lakes supply drinking water to nearby households. Please do not use sunscreen or otherwise pollute them. Ocean swimming is dangerous off Scott road and other beaches used by the shellfish industry; watch for nets on beaches.
Accommodation: Short-term vacation rentals (e.g. cottages) are not allowed by the Island’s bylaws. See BnBs currently listed on our visitor website. The Guesthouse has single, double, and family rooms. Camp only at Fillongley Park. Overnight parking in RVs is not permitted on roads anywhere.
Fuel: The General Store sells gasoline and fills propane tanks. EV chargers (Tesla and J1772) are available at the Community Hall.
